During March we will teach the Quickstep & Foxtrot. During the socials around 9.45pm, we also run through the Saunter Together Sequence as seen on youtube.
In April we will teach the Rumba & Cha-Cha-Cha.
In May we will teach the Samba & Salsa.
In June we will teach the Tango & Jive
In July we will teach the Waltz & Viennese Waltz
In August we will teach the Quickstep & Foxtrot again etc.
The Community Centre has a large dance floor and good sound system. There's good natural ventilation, free tea & biscuits during the break (6.30-7.00pm) and a welcoming friendly atmosphere. We provide a free slice of pizza with either a glass of wine or a beer for those of you want to stay for the social dance after the lesson. We also have a policy of allowing people to bring their own food & drinks. We currently have nearly equal numbers of men and women, (or leaders and followers) although this varies more in the beginners classes. We swap partners frequently during the lesson, so there's no need to bring a partner. Same sex partners are also welcome.
Please join meetup.com/ballroom-dancers-colliers-wood for the whole series of events with weekly reminders.
Only £6 all evening, or £5 without the lesson.
£15 for four consecutive weeks, or
£25 for ten consecutive weeks.
Please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions to improve your experience e.g. you'd like us to play slower/faster music, a favourite tune/ musician/ band, your own cd or perhaps you'd like to go over a particular move.
No partner is required although a partner is always very welcome & useful.
There is no need to book up before coming.
You'll find that you remember so much more when you dance between the lessons & practice what you learnt. Don't worry if you've missed some lessons. You are always welcome back.
Party Nights Will Be On Fridays In Central London
The next Black Tie dance with live band will be at the Indian YMCA FITZROY SQUARE LONDON W1T 6AQ near Warren Street Station on 7th April. Details may be found on meetup.com/black-tie-ballroom-club. Tickets £10 online or £15 on the door. Guest numbers limited to 100 number to ensure enough space on the dance floor. Tickets for these dances are usually sold out.
INDIVIDUAL (PRIVATE) LESSONS
The fastest way to learn to dance is to supplement your group classes with individual lessons (or private lessons as they were once known) whatever that genre of dance that may be. Barry only charge £30 per full hour. I will also charge for travelling depending on your location. Please contact me for a quote.
£220.00 for 8 hours tuition paid in advance.- That equals only £27.50 per hour
£400.00 for 16 hours tuition paid in advance.- That equals only £25 per hour
It may still be possible to have lessons upstairs at the Colliers Wood Community Centre on Sundays between 4 & 5.00pm or after the group lesson subject to availability. The room rent there is £6 per hour which may be shared if there is another lesson in there at the same time. Barry will charge extra if you want him to travel to you depending on your location.
You may be reluctant to commit yourself to one of the above packages before meeting me, so you could book your first £30 lesson & then decide whether or not to continue at the end of that lesson by paying either £30, £220.00 or £400.00 as appropriate.
Barry's fee does not include travelling. He plans to build a large conservatory for teaching dancing in his new home in Chigwell, but in the meantime he will have to travel to you, or we could possibly use his large carpeted living room which is therefore not ideal. Watch this space for updates.
The advantages of individual lessons are that they are tailor made to suit you. You can learn whatever you want to learn at your own pace in the style & level of your choice rather than take the risk of wasting time. This is particularly useful if your time is valuable or if you work during unsociable hours. Some people feel too shy to go to group classes until they feel reasonably competent.
You have the option of learning any of the numerous dances listed here.
Individual lessons are ideal if you may also want to learn a routine for a special occasion (such as a wedding or anniversary party), but please don't leave it until the last minute to avoid spoiling your special occasion Individual lessons also make good wedding presents - especially if they are taken in good time.
If you feel that you are not learning sufficiently fast, or wish to learn something that you are not getting out of group lessons, then you may consider learning on a one to one basis, a couple to one teacher or a small group with me I would be pleased to hear from anyone considering learning individually.
